TheOneTruePball's Scoop
About me:
Short version -
Mercurial, snarky and distractible.
Long version (and I do mean LONG) -
There's no way to not be arrogant about this so...I'm one of those people who's too damn smart for my own good. With a healthy streak of ADD it makes for "ooh SHINY" syndrome on a life scale. I'm a realist about my abilities and intellect, but I'm humble about it. I know I'm sharp but I don't think I'm smarter or better than you or anybody. I would never say that, from Feynman to the porter at work (Fausto's a fucking awesome guy! <3).
Started out majoring in marine bio, but realized it was too easy after I took Organic I so I jumped ship for chemistry, something that actually challenged my brain. Skated through my degree doing the most horrible things...triple integrals in polar coordinates are actually easier after a joint and some whisky. Then promptly got my grants at Brookhaven cut and spent two years cooking in the Hamptons and meeting the most interesting people (except for Ron Jeremy, I swear, if he were a civilian he'd never ever ever see pussy). After that fun, I put on a photographer's hat for a while, but with the eternal cheapening of digital equipment that market is just about impossible to make a living in anymore. Some kid with the latest D-whatever-hundred and a few community college courses doing weddings for $100 is great for brides but bad for business. Then I sort of slid into my midlife crisis ten years early...it wasn't erotic nor sexy nor fun...but if you really want, ask and maybe I'll tell if I'm feeling either open or drunk enough.
Crisis over, I went to culinary school in NYC, got a shady line cook job, ground it out for years till I finally made my bones...you may call me Chef now. Not "I'm a cook but call myself a chef because girls dig chefs", the for-realsies "oui Chef" kind.
I'm..."eloquent". English is a great language; the play you can make with words and the thoughts and ideas you can express with it are incomparable. I have a big vocabulary and I'm not afraid to use it!
And of course. With all this...confidence skating uncomfortably close to arrogance, I can't talk to people out of the blue. At least not smooth-like. It helps if you're vaguely dorky like me, I seem to get along better with the more..."esoteric" types.
Who I'd like to meet:
Interesting people. Boys, girls, whoever can make intelligent conversation. Then again, this probably isn't the right place.

Interests:
Chemistry. Cooking. Photography. Motorcycles. Guns. Politics. Porn.
Running. Real bad. Been doing it all my life but took a half-decade break; started up again a couple years ago when I noticed my rather large peacoat getting tight. Then I fell into being faster than my bff who's quasi-professional, so it spiraled out of control...the NYRR calls me "advanced competitive", I'm right on the edge of "sub-elite". Guess there is a sport I'm good at..
"You don't try. That's very important: not to try, either for Cadillacs, creation or immortality. You wait, and if nothing happens, you wait some more."
My Favorite Websites:

Music:
i listen to all sorts of things, some garbage, some excellent by any objective measure, and some just pretentious as hell.
i have a soft spot for "adolescent" (mid-90s) hardcore, no school like the old school: strife, diecast, converge, shai hulud, earth crisis, early hatebreed, snapcase, boy sets fire, VoD, blood for blood...can't get enough. raw and hard. "purity of purpose".
what else? the who, mozart, primus, old metallica, tiesto, allman brothers, beethoven, james taylor, msi, tribe, slayer, alk3, dylan, boxcar, moby, the cure, daft punk, js bach, the stones, korn, led zep, madonna, pantera, live, rush, sublime, the stones, bloodhound gang, johnny cash, old blink, hendrix, crue, dylan...
Movies:
fear and loathing in las vegas. the usual suspects. raiders of the lost ark. citizen kane. das boot. pulp fiction. the shining. clerks. shichinin no samurai. blade runner. spaceballs. ghost in the shell. taxi driver. nightmare before christmas. apocalypse now. monty python and the holy grail. reservoir dogs. the excorcist. psycho. fight club. willy wonka &the chocolate factory, charlie&the chocolate factory. corpse bride. silence of the lambs. chasing amy.
Books:
discworld. all the discworld. over and over - seriously, I'm probably on my eighth reread of most of them. they make me so happy.
red dragon, silence of the lambs, hannibal. the prince. hitch-hiker's guide to the galaxy. calvin&hobbes. various textbooks. the great gatsby. charles bukowski. kurt vonnegut. isaac asimov.
reread hobbit&lord of the rings, then got sucked into the silmarillion, and then the unfinished tales, and now the history of middle-earth. makes the star wars extended universe look quick and dirty.
