All music, except most (not all) rap, hip hop, and country western. But what I am listening to most these days is Andrew Bird, The Cowboy Junkies, The Decemberists, the Shins, Coldplay, Morphine, The Cure, Laurie Anderson, Crash Test Dummies, the Doves, Radiohead, Fountains of Wayne, Sonic Youth, John Zorn, and the Garden State soundtrack. Old favorites are X, the Sexpistols, the Clash, Lou Reed (including the Velvet Underground), Elvis Costello, the Talking Heads, Softcell (really only "Tainted Love" but what a perfect song), Genesis, Peter Gabriel, the Who, Roxie Music, CSNY, the Meat Puppets, the Germs, Barenaked Ladies, blah, blah, blah.
Movies:
Sad movies are great. Funny movies are almost as good. Perverse movies are best of all (some are funny, some are sad).
My all-time favorite movie is "Apocalypse Now," but "Exotica"(and if you haven't seen it - do yourself a favor and rent it - especially you who love schoolgirl costumes), "Young Frankenstein," "The Cook, the Thief, His Wife and Her Lover," "Babette's Feast," "Elephant Man," "Body Heat," "Repo Man" (which has a fabulous soundtrack), anything by David Lynch, the Coen Brothers, Alfred Hitchcock or John Waters, and "The Rocky Horror Pictue Show" are up there. But how stupid to try to enumerate a lifetime of delights. THERE ARE A HUNDRED MORE I COULD NAME! I left out "When Harry Met Sally" and "Un Chien Andelous" for example. My favorite actresses are Natalie Portman, Kiera Knightly, Uma Thurman, Mia Kirschner, and Meg Ryan. My favorite actors are Humphrey Bogart, Nicholas Cage (his old movies), Morgan Freeman, Samuel Jackson, and Johnny Depp (especially in Edward Scissorhands and Gilbert Grape).
Books:
Classic literature, emerging classics, and fantasy - hard to be more specific since I was an English literature and philosophy major. Ok - I can be a bit more specific. My favorite novel is "A Prayer for Owen Meany." My favorite author (besides Shakespeare) is Tom Robbins. The best books I have read in the last 3 months are the Sabriel series by Garth Nix and the last Harry Potter (sigh - I know, but I love the series, reread them before going on to 7, and have a sick crush on both Hermione Granger and Ginny Weasley).
