"In Flanders Fields" In Flanders fields the poppies blow Between the crosses, row on row That mark our place; and in the sky The larks, still bravely singing, fly Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days ago We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow, Loved and were loved, and now we lie In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe: To you from failing hands we throw The torch; be yours to hold it high. If ye break faith with us who die We shall not sleep, though poppies grow In Flanders fields.

I'd rather be a could-be if I cannot be an are; because a could-be is a maybe who is reaching for a star. I'd rather be a has-been than a might-have-been, by far; for a might have-been has never been, but a has was once an are...

Books:
The Boxes I open my eyes each and every day What I see around me just blows me away. There are bombs in the streets and rockets landing near by The only thing worse than the News is the soldiers who’ve died. Just open the paper or turn on the TV There are thousand of people talking about ME!! There are little kids with their parents, all holding signs They all want me dead “Thank God for Landmines” The newsmen all say just what we’ve done wrong Everyday a new singer, but its still the same song They count up our casualties, like baseball statistics And if someone makes a mistake, how they all go ballistic. They don’t know my name and I hope they never will Cause every name on the news is dead or in jail. They don’t care about the people that we have set free They don’t care about my buddies and they don’t care about me These people are shown to us troops everyday They tell us how we are wrong and they won’t go away It is hard to get up everyday and continue to fight When you wake up everyday and question what’s right We fight for freedom for free speech and more They use that right to bash us galore. We trudge thru the mud, weapon by our side And we are reminded each day of the soldiers who’ve died When the mud all dries out we are covered in dust We are helping the locals, sanitization is a must We have bettered their lives, just ask anyone They are grateful for all the work we have done But Americans don’t see that, they hate what we do If all I saw was the news, then I probably would too So why do we continue? The answer is easy you see Because of volunteers like the ones at OSB OSB sends lots of goodies to us And they appreciate our work and they make such a ruckus About how much they care, and how much they support us About how important we are and there are people who love us. They send us goodies, like candy and toys, And when we get the boxes we act like little boys…. (and girls) It isn’t the toothbrushes, we all have 2 each Or the candy that is as plentiful as sand on a beach It’s the home sewn bags that they all come in The time to pack and the letter within. The care that is taken to make us all smile And the connection that is felt from thousands of miles It’s the love in each package that matters the most And the feeling is mutual at every post We wait patiently for the mail and when it comes in A box from OSB has a reminder within Remember that we love you, and keep your head down Come by and visit if you’re ever in town Remember you are supported, no matter what you see And do yourself a favor, turn off that hateful TV.

Flag Folding Ceremony and what each Fold of the Flag Means
The flag folding ceremony described by the Uniformed Services is a dramatic and uplifting way to honor the flag on special days, like Memorial Day or Veterans Day, and is sometimes used at retirement ceremonies. Here is a typical sequence of the reading: The flag folding ceremony represents the same religious principles on which our country was originally founded. The portion of the flag denoting honor is the canton of blue containing the stars representing the states our veterans served in uniform. The canton field of blue dresses from left to right and is inverted when draped as a pall on a casket of a veteran who has served our country in uniform. In the Armed Forces of the United States, at the ceremony of retreat the flag is lowered, folded in a triangle fold and kept under watch throughout the night as a tribute to our nation's honored dead. The next morning it is brought out and, at the ceremony of reveille, run aloft as a symbol of our belief in the resurrection of the body. (1)The first fold of our flag is a symbol of life. (2)The second fold is a symbol of our belief in the eternal life. (3)The third fold is made in honor and remembrance of the veteran departing our ranks who gave a portion of life for the defense of our country to attain a peace throughout the world. (4)The fourth fold represents our weaker nature, for as American citizens trusting in God, it is to Him we turn in times of peace as well as in times of war for His divine guidance. (5)The fifth fold is a tribute to our country, for in the words of Stephen Decatur, "Our country, in dealing with other countries, may she always be right; but it is still our country, right or wrong." (6)The sixth fold is for where our hearts lie. It is with our heart that we pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the republic for which it stands, one nation, under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. (7)The seventh fold is a tribute to our Armed Forces, for it is through the Armed Forces that we protect our country and our flag against all her enemies, whether they be found within or without the boundaries of our republic. (8)The eighth fold is a tribute to the one who entered in to the valley of the shadow of death, that we might see the light of day, and to honor mother, for whom it flies on mother's day. (9)The ninth fold is a tribute to womanhood; for it has been through their faith, love, loyalty and devotion that the character of the men and women who have made this country great have been molded. (10)The tenth fold is a tribute to father, for he, too, has given his sons and daughters for the defense of our country since they were first born. (11)The eleventh fold, in the eyes of a Hebrew citizen, represents the lower portion of the seal of King David and King Solomon, and glorifies, in their eyes, the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. (12)The twelfth fold, in the eyes of a Christian citizen, represents an emblem of eternity and glorifies, in their eyes, God the Father, the Son, and Holy Ghost. When the flag is completely folded, the stars are uppermost, reminding us of our national motto, "In God we Trust." After the flag is completely folded and tucked in, it takes on the appearance of a cocked hat, ever reminding us of the soldiers who served under General George Washington and the sailors and marines who served under Captain John Paul Jones who were followed by their comrades and shipmates in the Armed Forces of the United States, preserving for us the rights, privileges, and freedoms we enjoy today.
